OweMate uses account and app data to provide your IOU records, sharing, reminders, attachments, purchases and notifications. Secure Vault content is encrypted on your device before upload. OweMate does not sell your personal information or use your app content for advertising.
1. Information we handle
Depending on the features you use, OweMate may process:
- Account information: your email address, authentication information and internal account identifiers.
- IOU and record information: people or counterparties you add, amounts, currencies, dates, item details, notes, status and other record information you choose to enter.
- Shared Space information: records and people stored in a shared space are accessible to both members of that space.
- Attachments: files or images you choose to associate with app records. OweMate-hosted attachments are stored in private storage subject to app access controls.
- Secure Vault content: Vault notes and files that are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded.
- Notification information: device or push-notification tokens needed to deliver notifications through platform notification services.
- Purchase and entitlement information: product identifiers, purchase verification information and Premium entitlement status used to provide paid features. App stores may independently maintain their own purchase history.
2. How we use information
We use information to authenticate users, provide and synchronize OweMate records, operate Shared Space, store requested attachments, deliver reminders and transactional notifications, provide account recovery, verify Premium access, protect the service, provide support and process account-deletion requests.
We do not sell personal information and do not use your OweMate records or Secure Vault content for targeted advertising.
3. Sharing and service providers
OweMate relies on service providers to operate parts of the service. These can include Supabase for backend, authentication, database and storage services; Firebase and platform push services for notifications; Google Play and, where applicable, Apple App Store services for distribution and purchases; and Brevo for transactional email delivery.
Information is shared with these providers only as needed for the relevant service and is also subject to their applicable terms and privacy practices.
If you deliberately use Shared Space, the other member can access the records and people stored in that shared space. Do not put information into a shared space that you do not want the other member to access.
4. Secure Vault
Secure Vault is designed for private notes and files. Vault content is encrypted on the device before it is sent to OweMate. Shared-space membership by itself does not grant access to another member's private Vault.
OweMate also provides recovery and Emergency Access mechanisms. Emergency Access is an explicit, protected, read-only process with a countdown and owner controls. Secure Vault is not a password manager; users should not store passwords, PINs or one-time authentication codes there.
5. Security
OweMate uses authenticated access, server-side access controls, private storage and client-side encryption for Secure Vault content. No internet service can promise absolute security, so users should also protect their devices, email accounts and recovery information.
6. Retention and account deletion
We retain information while needed to provide OweMate and for legitimate operational, security or legal purposes. You can initiate account deletion inside OweMate or follow our web account-deletion instructions.
For an eligible single-user space, account deletion removes the OweMate sign-in account and associated OweMate personal-space data, including records, people, settings, related app data and OweMate-hosted attachments. If a current shared space still has another member, deletion is blocked until that sharing relationship is resolved so another person's shared data is not silently destroyed.
Purchase history independently maintained by Google Play or Apple is controlled by those platforms and is not deleted by deleting your OweMate account.
7. Children
OweMate is not designed as a service directed to children. If you believe personal information has been provided to OweMate inappropriately, contact us so we can review the request.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as OweMate changes. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current published version.
